Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi roji'un

By now, many would have received or read the news: Tuan Guru Nik Aziz has passed away. May Allah s.w.t. bless his soul.

It is from Him we come, and it is to Him we shall return.

Dragon Stance

Just the other night, a free-to-air TV channel aired 'First Blood', the first of many Rambo movies. I remember the movie well as I was in Singapore when it was released. Have to say this: I did laugh watching 'First Blood' this time around. No, not because I view the film as being comical but at the memories of many who, soon after the movie was released, proclaimed themselves as a Rambo. Too many, in fact. In real life, and in later movies. A few, however, stand taller than the character. Even to this date.

"Defiant", the image above was not named after the TV series 'Defiance', but of Rambo in one of the later 'First Blood' sequels. I can't remember how many sequels or which sequel the image above reminds me but I do remember a poster of Sylvester Stallone holding his machine gun with a grenade launcher on his back. Or something like that. That image sticks to my mind as it does to many. Over the years, many a similar image has come to fore, where one, notably taken nearly a decade ago, will always be remembered by many Malaysians. By the way, the exif above are from my memory and not of the photo. Actual photo is in my PC above and I do hate having to run up and down just for it. Unless I'm having insomnia. Talking of which...

Read somewhere that insomnia is a growing problem here in Malaysia. If true and you're one of them, perhaps this site can help you. Muslims however, treat insomnia through night prayers which some may akin it to meditation; for many Muslims, lesser sleep is better if it is followed by prayers.

A pious Muslim leader from long ago, once finished his rounds of looking into the poor of the city very late. When he got home he was so tired and fell asleep only to be awaken moments later by his mother for the dawn prayers. Asking to delay the prayers as he was too tired, his mother said "when we no longer breathe, then we can sleep for long". The man humbly got up to begin his prayers.

A case of too much sleep is not good, either. A report I read somewhere said that it could lead to obesity and a few other ailments and somehow this reminds me of 'Freddie' from a certain series of horror movies. Can't remember the name of the movie, sorry. In the movie, the victims who fall asleep are killed by 'Freddie' and dies in real life. I can buy that but in another name: Apnea. Some, here in Malaysia, would call it 'hantu tindih' or 'tindihan'. Politicians, I think will be suffering most from it as many are afraid to state their true stand.

A Longing

Been slightly more than 2years since I held my camera. Last, was on the short journey after which Emak and I both fell ill for a long duration. Too long, it seems. And it is only now that I realise how I miss going out for a shoot. Never a people-photo kind of guy. My love was nature, especially birds but could not pursue them much. Finally, flowers became the most convenient subject. Sadly, with my being alone at home and unable to tend the plants, many died. Before I send the wrong thoughts to anyone, let me say this: a good photographer I was not. I am simply one, like many, who loves taking shots of anything beautiful.

My Canon 500D is now gathering dust in its cabinet. For the moment, my shoulders still cannot lug even it for more than several minutes, what else the bag and accessories. Not much there though. Just several filters, a few lenses, and the tripod. The hobby, as many can testify, can be rather expensive.

Long exposures. They became my pursuit before I fell ill. Unable to leave Emak alone for long periods of time, I made my own small studio on the front porch, sometimes wondering if the neighbours might think I was kind of looney when they see torchlight beamed high and low as I try to perfect the needed lighting. One, like the photo below, belong to my 'Dark Series'.

My apologies though as it is only a reduced copy of the original, I am unable to give the Exif, if ever one is interested. With only slight adjustment to the brightness and whatnot as permitted, almost none of the photos were edited.

Hmm...now that I have uploaded it, I wonder if anyone from a social network I was in would recognise and identify me. If you're one of them, I do apologise for not returning to the fold. As much as I would like to, I just can't find it in me to do so. Perhaps I'm still nursing a broken heart after the last General Election and my heart stand defiant against it.
